Blog Awards!

Hello!

Over the past few months I’ve been getting blog awards from other awesome, kind, fabulous bloggers.  I’ve been wanting to pass them on and of course I’m terribly behind.  I kind of feel like I did in high school when I look up after months of summer vacation and realize I had a reading list to get through.  Anyways.  I love the idea of these blog awards mainly because I want to pass them onto other bloggers, so here’s the first one. 

The Liebster Award

I answered these questions for Treyton’s Posse last year and never passed it on (please don’t hate me Rob, if you ever met my husband he would tell you that this kind of scatterbrainedness is par for the course around here!).  Then I got another Liebster nomination from The Rainbow Pants (go check out her book!) a couple months ago (yes, I know, I’m slow).  So I’ll answer the second set of questions and pass it on.

1. How did you name your blog? What was your inspiration?

Well, as you’ll see in my “About” section, I’m the proverbial Kimchi and my partner is the Latke.  Which, I must admit is a little misleading, because I don’t blog about cooking or Judaism.  Maybe once in a blue moon, but the blog is really about being a mom, having kids, and my thoughts on disability.  Sorry, what can ya do?  It was catchy.

2. Why did you want to blog?

The original reason I started blogging was just to update our friends and family after we found out that our third kid (the Little Pirate) has Trisomy 21, or Down syndrome.  It was emotionally exhausting to explain to people how we felt and it seemed like the easiest way to reach everyone.  Plus, if I’m completely honest, I thought we were in for the long haul of trying to accept the diagnosis.  As it turns out, the long haul wasn’t long at all.  I still blog, however, to connect to the Down syndrome community, rant and rave about my feelings, and mull over my thoughts on parenthood in general.  Now the blog is sort of an Advocacy Venting Online Opinion Journal (AVOOJ).  Is there no such thing as that?  There is now.

3. What is your favorite time of the day and why?

At night when everyone has gone to bed.  I get to do… whatever I want!

4. If you found a treasure box in the middle of an empty room would you open it? Why or Why not?

Heck, yes!  If you know me at all, you know that I have very little self-control when it comes to my curiosity.  I would absolutely open a treasure box in the middle of an empty room.  Unless there was something creepy about it, like a bad odor of a creepy voice saying “Don’t open this box.”  Then I probably wouldn’t open it.  Right away, at least.

5. Who are your inspirations in life?

Regular old people.  I think famous people are great, don’t get me wrong.  Copernicus, Martin Luther King, Ghandi, Frida Kahlo.  All great.  But really what I find inspiring is regular people who share this planet with me, because without our fellow human beings why would we do or create anything at all?  I think that everyone is extraordinary and ordinary at the same time, and that everyone is capable of inspiring their fellow human beings.

6. Do you believe in fate? why or why not?

I believe that there might be some inevitability to events, yes.  I honestly think there might be a scientific reason for it.  Like that magic number trick, where no matter what number you start out with, if you follow the same pattern you end up on the same number.  It makes sense in my head, for real.  Quantum physics, or something.  Dude.

7. If you could choose a color pant to represent how you feel right now, what color would it be, and what feeling would it represent? (Example: grumpy pants red)

Pensive purple.

8. What is your dream job?

This is really hard for me, because I’m pretty happy with a lot of different things.  If I could get paid doing Down syndrome advocacy/activism, I would love it.  Same for writing.  I could also be really happy farming, being an artist, making kid’s clothes, selling Korean food, lots of things, really.  I wouldn’t be heartbroken if I had a job as, say, a chocolate taster.  So I guess I don’t have a dream job.  But I’ve got a lot of dreams.

9. What is your favorite name?

Um.  Jisun.  Obviously.

10. Was blogging all you thought it would be why or why not?

It has been a lot more than what I’d ever imagined it to be.  I’ve met so many amazing people, many of whom I have had real friendships with over the past year.  It has also been a lot uglier behind the scenes than I expected.  I suppose that shouldn’t have been so surprising to me though.  Most of all, I’ve come to realize how much I love writing.
